I am trying to remember if I saw or heard the terms AI, ML, LLM, AGENTIC etc. at DAC. …. Ummm let me check my notes… OK, YES, 3427 times! That is roughly 300 times a booth. So, I guess this is, has been the new frontier for EDA tool development and underscores the emerging prominence of AI and related technologies as the new frontier in EDA tool development. Enough with the sarcasm.
EDA continues to evolve, embracing yet another new frontier(s) in its ongoing development and redevelopment cycles of EDA tools over the years. Exhibitors consistently highlighted their use of AI and explored its extensive possibilities. Despite the enthusiasm, they all still face significant challenges in development and hiring. No worry, soon, AI will fix itself and none of us will have anything to worry about except maybe our jobs and future existence…OK enough with sarcasm.
The conference was busy, even though DAC's footprint has diminished compared to previous years. As I often mention, the key attendees are present, and DAC remains as an important annual gathering: THE PLACE for the EDA, SEMI, and Internet sectors.
AND THANK GOODNESS MY WHITE JACKET REMAINS WELL KNOWN!
Personally, I discovered new companies and observed a revitalization of established ones. Verification remains a central focus, with more firms developing tools that leverage AI for both design and verification processes.
I was also surprised by the number of new companies seeking assistance in recruiting talent and asking for our help. While major semiconductor firms have experienced layoffs, the EDA sector's hiring remains strong, though the talent pool is much more limited. The challenge lies in the high selectivity of top candidates and the discerning nature of newer companies. Add the element of companies holding on to talented engineers, and the challenge becomes even more magnified.
It is evident that AI is increasingly integrated into the recruiting process. However, recruiters often rely on keyword matching, which I know, we know is insufficient. Effective recruiting is a complex, lengthy process, especially in EDA, where the candidate pool is extremely limited. Deep understanding of EDA is essential. With nearly 30 years of experience placing 100’s of candidates in our complex EDA, SEMI, and more recently, Internet-related roles, we know how to identify the right talent efficiently, saving everyone's time.
Below are my current job openings. Please review them on our newly refreshed website, EDA-CAREERS.com, and feel free to reach out. If these opportunities are not suitable for you, share them with a friend—perhaps earning some extra income. Maybe one day, I will have AI rewrite this message (or did IT) and join the club myself.
