Microsoft…Wait, that is not a good one, but you get the idea. (And, with all that is going on, thank goodness he is doing what he is doing). Yes, my friends, we are facing a new normal. DVCON, which was happening at the precipice of all of this, was a wakeup call for me… as it was different this time.  Details on the Covid-19 virus were quickly (certainly not quickly enough) emerging and it was blatantly obvious that the Conference was affected by the news.  Synopsys and Cadence both pulled out at the last minute and further, told their people not to even attend.  Companies all over the Valley were cancelling appointments, not allowing outsiders onto their campuses.  (On a good note, it was more congenial, there was more food and drinks to be had by those conference diehards who stuck it out).

Fast forward a FEW weeks, and we all know the situation.  But what does this mean for hiring and the technologies we are developing. Well to start, computers, don’t get viruses…(umm rather they are not susceptible to “Corona” or similar viruses). I am not going to get into the science fiction implications of machines and our future surviving, but I will briefly talk about what this might mean for our jobs and the way we interact in the future, and how technology might play a role in that.

As we ask machines to do more and more of our work, and ESPECIALLY now, as we ask them to help us to work from remote locations or hold meetings remotely etc., we can expect that new reality to have an impact on future hiring considerations.  We may now find that working remotely has advantages or of course conversely, negative realities. With no crystal ball to know how long this will last, it is safe to say that new technologies will be emerging that will connect us all remotely, much more easily and in some cases, more efficiently. Will that change the way we deal with each other?  Will this make us less or more productive? Will salaries go up or down because of this reality?  Could office space not be as necessary in the future?  Will we lose our privacy at home?  Will overall productivity go up or down?  (Personally, I am sure it absolutely will change the way business is done going forward).  These and so many more questions are yet to be answered but we are certainly looking at a new, rapidly changing frontier and we need to be ready for it.

As for hiring, I think that while things are quite strong, that could change…a global pandemic has the unfortunate tendency to do that. So far that has not happened and hiring is still robust for us with lots of new positions as you see here.

I do not foresee companies overly concerned about filling those critical positions that they needed just a few weeks ago. The problem now is how to hire, since we cannot meet each other.  First, even second interviews can frequently happen telephonic ally but meeting in person is always where the deal is sealed.  So, to say I am currently concerned about that part of hiring, is not an overstatement. However, I do think that as we settle into these new realities, we will see new frontiers opening up to accomplish those needs and globally, more talent could even come more together to collaborate. That could be a game changer if it becomes the new normal.

There is much to wait and see but, in the meantime, I am doing what I always do, (in good times or bad)…I make the most of every day, doing what I do 11 hours a day, and I have no plans on changing that anytime soon.  I will also study the market, do the things that I rarely get a chance to do so I can perhaps get out ahead of myself, and prepare for what might be coming.  I will not worry as that is counterproductive.  I am open, doing business, and giving it my usual 100%.

Here is what I do know…I have laid a strong foundation that will adapt to the changing realities, and I know when I ask the question, “Why do so many companies choose to use my company,  EDA-Careers for their critical needs”?  I can honestly take comfort in knowing the answer, because it  is actually quite simple: It is because we do recruiting differently. It is because we are highly ethical. It is because we know and understand the domains we work in. And most importantly, it is because we work really hard to get results, and we get results because we are famous for our follow-up and for getting answers from both sides.  We get results because we have the most advanced recruiting database in the industry, and we understand the entire process.  And we get results because we have a personal relationship with the people involved in the hiring process and we do not waste anyone’s time.

Our new totally revamped website is up and running and it looks great, with a complete up-to-date listing of our current openings. Let us know what you think. If you do not see a good fit, keep checking back or call me to discuss what doors I might be able to jiggle to consider your talents. Call me anytime and please stay safe and hopefully this too will end soon.

Please feel free to forward to a friend and remember, I do pay a referral fee on anyone you refer that gets hired!
