OK, let us start with the obvious…There are a lot of companies looking to hire and hiring “is” happening, (check that), companies are “attempting” to hire at a frenzied space. I have more companies reaching out to me for help than ever before and I have FEWER candidates to fill them. Over the years I have written about the pendulum swing when it comes to hiring. That means that at various periods there are more folks looking for a new career than there are companies hiring, certainly that is not the case now. Conversely the opposite, which is the case now but is more like that swing-boat, swinging pendulum ride at the carnival fair, only stuck in the top position, begging for help with few looking to partake.

We have a database of over 10k candidates along with 25 years in the biz placing hundreds of candidates, and even I am not getting the call backs I was so used to. I need AE’s, Solution Architects, DFT and Verification Engineers, SW Developers, Sales and more. So, what is really going on here? The answer is several things.

First, we all know about the global semiconductor shortage and everyone is playing post pandemic catch up causing exceedingly high demand and thereby causing a need for more staffing.

Second, the economy is flying along with fantastic stock market performance, near record low employment and yes, even with inflation soaring, the economies worldwide are doing quite well.

Third, consumers are spending, innovation is soaring and demand for product is high, and more an more of everything is powered by chips of some sort. That increased demand coupled with the well-known low production output is creating a tsunami of hiring and even a PR nightmare as people want everything now, because they think they won’t get it or it will cost more.

Forth, The work from anywhere acceptance has added to the ability for more people to pick and choose where they work and what they do. Additionally, with higher wages comes more realization that job seekers are more in the driver’s seat when it comes to the limited pool of candidates and the limited amount of people with all these rare, needed varied expertise.

Last on the list, but really important is that many companies, especially those in EDA are figuring out that retention is key to keeping a project on track and the past revolving doors are rusting, making it more difficult for employees to think about leaving. Companies are doing what they need to do to keep people happy.

NOW FOR THE GOOD SIDE FOR THOSE LOOKING OR THINKING OF LOOKING…the market needs you and if you see something (check out below and monitor my website, www.eda.careers.com ), there are plenty of good opportunities to consider. Feel free to call me to see what might be out there for someone with your skills as I am good at kicking tires and have made many a good things happen for the right people where there were no openings. I am glad to talk and advise anytime. I look forward to hearing from you.
